(Miami, FL January 3, 2019) - Nearly 800 plan review applications have been successfully submitted to the City of Miami Building Department since the official launch of Electronic Plan Review (ePlan) in December 5, 2018. This faster and more resourceful tool allows stakeholders, residents and customers to apply, check on applications and work with interactive drawings and documents from any device connected to the internet.
“We are always looking for ways to increase efficiencies, streamline our processes and make our services more accessible to our residents and businesses. ePlan has proven to do just that,” said City Manager Emilio Gonzalez. “I’m confident the number of successful applications will continue to rise given the option customers now have of uploading their plans from home or work. Congratulations to our Building Department for this great leap forward.”
More than 230 applicants have taken advantage of the electronic upload option which provides users the convenience of uploading drawings and documents remotely allowing for several cost and time saving efficiencies including the ability of submitting plans electronically from their home or office, 24 hours 7 days a week. Furthermore, plans are simultaneously reviewed by all professional and trade disciplines and City reviewer mark-ups are made directly on plans to provide direction and clarity as to any items which require correction. In addition, corrected plans can be re-submitted electronically through ePlan and lastly, the applicant can expect the return of their approved, stamped plans in real-time, once the fees are paid.
To date the building Department has reduced review time drastically with some customers receiving feedback on their application within 2 hours as opposed to two weeks.
As part of the City's commitment to innovation and customer service, we will continue to improve our processes and encourage customers to complete the process 100% online.
Electronic Plan Review is a convenient service that speeds-up the existing permitting process by replacing the traditional paper-based review method. lt improves the plan review cycle, reduces costs associated with obtaining right of way, special permits and building permits and reinforces our commitment to resilience by reducing paper.
