Miami Parks to host free geology seminar

(Miami, FL, October 23, 2018) - The City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department will be hosting “Understanding the Geology Underlying Miami and What it Tells us About the Past and Future Sea Level,” a free seminar with Dr. Sam Purkis, professor at the University of Miami and author of “Quantitative interrogation of a fossilized carbonate sand body – The Pleistocene Miami oolite of South Florida”.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to delve into a study of the marine deposits which underlie Miami and give the city its subtle topography to understand how marine deposits will dictate the differential impact of the rising sea in one of Miami’s nationally recognized protected natural areas, Simpson Park.
