Determine a Historic Property

Do you own or are considering buying a property and want to know if it's designated as historic? This process will help you determine what properties are historic, which carry different rules and regulations for any future alterations.

Steps

Search the Property Address in GIS

The City of Miami offers a zoning mapping tool where you can see if the property is historic.  Select "search", enter the address, and hit search again.

NOTE: This tool auto-populates addresses in a very specific format, so be sure to type slowly and wait for the address to show up.

Look for Historic Designation

Once the property is selected, go to 'layers' and check which boxes you'd like to view (in this case, Historic Preservation + Historic Districts).

  • If your property is highlighted in either or orange or purple, then its designated as historic.
