Get a Temporary Banner Permit for an Event

Are you installing a temporary banner? There are a variety of banner permits regulated under Chapter 62 of the City's Code (Planning and Zoning, Art. XIII). This does not apply to a construction site or an event in the public right of way (a parade or marathon). 

We strongly suggest you contact Public Works first to discuss which application(s) you need. 305-416-1200. 

NOTE:

  • These permits can be given once a year per locationand the signage can not be up for more than 30 days.
  • These permits do not apply to murals or billboards, which are part of the sign code

The City has a variety of permits for different banners and locations. We strongly suggest you reach out to Public Works to confirm which application you need.

Plan Ahead

The completed application must be submitted at least 30 days prior to installation of the banner. 

Complete Application 

Complete the (PDF, 242KB)Temporary Banner Application(PDF, 3MB). As part of the application process, you will need to notify neighbors (see below). You can include the copies of these letters now, with your initial application OR after you hear from Public Works. You application will not be processed until you have provided proof of notifications.

Email completed application to: rrojas@miamigov.com. You will hear back with any questions or missing pieces. 

Notify Neighbors + Send

You must mail notification letters, detailing what banner you'll be displaying and when. You must send certified letters to the following:

NOTE: You must keep copies of the certified letters & receipts. 

Once you have mailed the letters, you must send (either with your application or after you've spoken to Public Works) these copies to rrojas@miamigov.com. 

Review Fees

The fees are based on the banner size. 

100 square feet in size or less: $153.50
101 square feet to 1,000 square feet: $303.50
1,001 square feet to 2,000 square feet: $503.50
2,001 square feet to 3,000 square feet: $603.50
3,001 square feet to 4,000 square feet: $703.50
4,001 square feet to 5,000 square feet: $803.50

NOTE: Temporary Banners larger than 5,000 square feet are prohibited.

Pay Fees

Once Public Works has received your application + notification letters, they will send you an invoice. You must pay this invoice before anything further happens.

Await Response

Once the completed application is reviewed by all appropriate departments, it will be submitted to the various departments for approval. If approved, the Public department will contact you to pick up the permit or the permit can be e-mailed to you.

Remove Temporary Banner 

Remember, these permits can be given only once a year per location; and the signage can not be up for more than 30 days.  Be sure to remove your banner.
