Pedro Milián Street Co-designation

City of Miami District 4 Commissioner Manolo Reyes will host a road co-designation ceremony on Wednesday, March 15 to name a portion of SW 25th Street as Pedro Milián Street.

"Pedro Milián's legacy continues to be a clear example of strength, dedication, and commitment to his community. His story represents the story of hundreds of Cubans who, because they were Patriots, had to flee their land. Far from being defeated, Milián continued to build and contribute to the country that opened its doors to him.  This recognition is a symbol of gratitude for everything he left us," said Commissioner Reyes.

Pedro Milián was born in Matanzas, Cuba on January 30, 1939. At a young age, he not only demonstrated having talent for business but also for being a brave patriot who was not afraid of tyranny.

Living in Cuba during the Bay of Pigs invasion, he worked to help and assist his fellow countrymen. He was captured and accused of collaborating with the United States.

In 1961, Milián escaped the communist regime and established himself in Miami. As the story goes for many exiles in the community at the time, Mr. Milián took on several jobs simply to survive those early days in Miami. In the late 1960's he started working for WFAB radio "La Fabulosa" in Miami as a sports reporter and later WQBA radio covering local sports and other local events. With his entrepreneurial spirit, he opened several businesses such as El Estilo Furniture, King Liquors, Lion Lounge, Habana Madrid Restaurant and P&M Advertisement. Through his advertisement company, he represented many well established Miami organizations, as well as TV and political personalities. This gave him the opportunity to enjoy one of his greatest passions, his love for baseball and the Marlins.

Pedro Milián was one of the founders of the radio show "Cafecito con Los Marlins". This was the perfect space for him to engage with the community he so loved.

Milián received many awards and was recognized for his work and contributions to the City of Miami. He was a great supporter of the Cuban Exile Community up to his last days.

With this road designation, the City of Miami would like to honor Pedro Milián by naming a portion of Southwest 25th Street from Douglas Road/SW 37 Avenue to SW 36 Avenue as Pedro Milián Street.
