Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, along with Commission Chairman Ken Russell and Commissioners Joe Carollo and Manolo Reyes, announced the City’s new Senior Rental Assistance Program last week. The first-of-its-kind program will help alleviate the cost burden of rent for seniors on fixed incomes who are especially vulnerable to annual rent hikes. Miami residents ages 62 and up who spend more than 50 percent of their monthly income on housing costs and meet specific other criteria are eligible to participate. The program will provide participants up to $100 per month towards their housing expenses for one year. Earlier this year, City Commissioners dedicated  $1 million in funds to the program.

Applications for this program are available until Friday, January 31.
