New Grant Program to Assist Small Businesses Affected by COVID-19
Published on November 20, 2020
The City of Miami today launched its new Business Assistance Grant program to assist qualified small businesses located within City of Miami limits that suffered a loss of revenue due to the COVID-19 pandemic and meet all program requirements. Online applications are now available for download on the City’s website.
The program provides eligible businesses with a one-time assistance grant equal to 20 percent of the business’s annual gross revenue in 2019, capped at a maximum amount of $20,000, to cover expenses that help the business remain operational. The program can assist eligible for-profit or not-for-profit businesses with an annual gross revenue that does not exceed $1 million, and that are currently open for business, or able to open if no mandatory closure orders are in place.
In order to qualify the business MUST be: (1) located within City of Miami limits (all City folios begin with 01 on the property appraiser website); (2) meet all of the eligibility criteria as indicated on the application; (3) turn in one submission package that includes a printed and completed application, along with copies of all required supporting documents as explained on the application.
Expenses covered by the program are those allowing the business to remain operational including, but not limited to, rent, employee salaries, licenses, insurance, inventory, COVID-prevention supplies, services related to cleaning and sanitizing the work environment, and certain utility costs. Reimbursable business expenses must have been incurred on or after March 1, 2020 through the date of the application’s submission, and proof of payment for these expenses must be provided (receipts, banks statements). The program cannot pay for future anticipated expenses, loans, or expenses that have already been paid via any other federal, state or local program related to COVID-19.
Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-ready, first-serve basis with the program set to close on Dec. 31, 2020. Businesses that received assistance from the City’s Business Continuity Micro Enterprise Program or Small Business Emergency Loan Program will not qualify for this grant until December 10, 2020. These previously assisted businesses will be able to apply for the Business Assistance Grant program after this date but will only qualify for expenditures not previously covered by any other federal, state or local program related to COVID-19.
Submission of an application does not guarantee the applicant will receive any assistance. Documents cannot be returned to the applicant. This program is funded with Coronavirus, Aid, Relief, And Economic Security (CARES) Act funds provided in coordination with Miami-Dade County. For questions, call 305-416-2080.
