Housing Program for Persons with AIDS Accepting Applications Soon

The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Tenant Based Rental Assistance Program will accept new applications for its waitlist via U.S. mail from February 10 through February 21, 2020. The program is administered locally by the City of Miami Department of Housing & Community Development.
 
The HOPWA Program provides rental housing assistance to qualifying low-income persons/families who:

  • Have a member with a medical AIDS diagnosis, as defined by the CDC;
  • Are 80% of the area median income or below, as defined by the income limits issued annually by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD);
  • Live or plan to live in Miami-Dade County; and,
  • Meet the documentation requirements of citizenship or immigration status.

Waitlist applications will be available starting February 10, online at www.aidsnet.org, and in paper format at the City of Miami’s Department of Housing and Community Development, 14 NE 1 Ave., Second Floor, Miami, FL, 33132, or at the Main branch of the Miami-Dade Public Library, at 101 West Flagler Street, Miami, FL 33130. Any individual or family who submits more than ONE application will be disqualified. In order to be considered for the Waitlist, applicants must complete the application package and send it via U.S. Mail with a postmark no later than February 21, 2020, to the PO Box indicated on the application. All applications must be submitted via U.S. mail inclusive of a Client Medical Verification Form, which will be made available in advance, starting Jan. 15, 2020 at www.aidsnet.org, and must be completed and signed by a licensed medical practitioner verifying the AIDS diagnosis. This verification form will also be included in the application packages available on February 10. All applications received by the deadline will be reviewed by an independent agency for eligibility and then randomly selected via computerized lottery for waitlist assignment.
