Last Saturday, as Hispanic Heritage Month officially concluded, District 5 Miami City Commissioner Jeffrey Watson and Mayor Francis Suarez presented Latin performing artist Nicky Jam with a Key to the City in recognition of his success as an artist and his generous efforts to improve his Miami hometown. The presentation took place during the City's Hispanic Heritage Month celebration at Roberto Clemente Park in Wynwood.

Nicky Jam has donated money to Miami's Gibson Park in Overtown, along with moving into the neighboring area of Roberto Clemente Park.

“I applaud Nicky Jam for not just all that he’s done in this community, but because of what he’s done in other communities,” said Commissioner Watson. “It takes a big person to invest in other people’s kids and continue to give back.”

Growing up, Nicky struggled with substance abuse, but ultimately overcame that obstacle and has now marked a decade of sobriety. He plans to continue giving back to the Miami community and offering residents hope.

“I came here when I was like eight years old, and I said I wanted to be a part of Miami and help people in Miami,” said Nicky Jam. “I am so blessed and honored.”

Commissioner Watson and City Commission District 5 look forward to supporting Nicky Jam as he continues working to improve his community and lend a hand to his neighbors in need.
