The City of Miami was a selected as one of five international nominees for the Climathon Global Awards. This award is a celebration of transformative local solutions that are helping communities tackle climate change.

The City was nominated by Climathon Global Awards for the Wynwood Living Street Project known as the ‘The Woonerf’ – a shared, pedestrian-friendly streetscape. The creation of comfortable, walkable urban spaces like woonerfs is critical to combating greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging other forms of transit. The Wynwood project demonstrates strategies to address climate change vulnerabilities at a meaningful scale throughout Miami by investing in the public right-of-way. This new pedestrian-friendly streetscape project aims to combat emissions from motorized vehicles by encouraging alternate modes of transportation in Wynwood, tackling two issues with one walkway.

Cities that are nominated for the Climathon Global Awards can win tailored support from world-leading experts on their proposal, international media attention, seed funding and more.
