Today, Miami City Manager Art Noriega named Alan Dodd, P.E. as the City's new Chief Resilience Officer (CRO), effective immediately. Dodd, who has led Miami's Department of Resilience and Public Works since 2018, replaces outgoing CRO Jane Gilbert, who is departing the post to spend more time with family. Mr. Dodd will also maintain his current duties.

"Alan Dodd is a natural and highly qualified choice to take over this important role, leading major resilient infrastructure projects and master planning efforts for the City over the past two-plus years, while working closely with our outgoing CRO throughout," said City Manager Art Noriega. "Alan's impressive professional background and project management expertise will serve our community well as we redouble our commitment to making Miami a truly resilient city."

In his new CRO role, Dodd will continue to move the City's various resilience efforts forward, including City- and grant-funded initiatives. Additionally, he will ensure that key resilience partnerships established during Ms. Gilbert's tenure continue. Among them are the Global Resilient City Network, Resilient305, the Adrienne Arsht Center for Resilience at the Atlantic Council, the C-40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, and Mayor Francis Suarez's ongoing participation in the Global Commission on Climate Adaptation.

Dodd joined the City of Miami in June 2018 from the City of Fort Lauderdale, where he served as Assistant Director of Public Works and then as Deputy Director of Public Works. Prior to that, he served as Commander/District Engineer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Jacksonville District, where he managed programs focused on water resources planning, ecosystem restoration, environmental cleanup, beach re-nourishment, flood protection, construction, navigation and dredging, and hurricane storm damage reduction. He previously held various engineering positions with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Mr. Dodd holds a Master of Science in Civil Engineering & Construction Management from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Strategic Studies & National Strategy from the U.S. Army War College and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He is a recipient of the Army Legion of Merit, among other military commendations and professional awards.
