City & Amazon Business Launch Small Business Procurement Capability

Today, the City of Miami and Amazon Business officially launched a new capability to seamlessly connect local and small Miami businesses with purchasers at the City of Miami seeking products to support their operations. The launch is well-timed, coming as City leaders work to reactivate the local economy following weeks of slowdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with Amazon Business to create a solution that will help our local and small business community find work opportunities with our City government,” said Miami Mayor Francis Suarez. “Now, more than ever, we need to be engaging and supporting our independent vendors and mom-and-pop businesses.”
The City of Miami is one of just a handful of major municipalities across the U.S. to work with Amazon Business to offer government organizations the ability to search and purchase goods from local suppliers. The online retailer offers a familiar, user-friendly interface to vendors selling their products to purchasing organizations. In an effort to distinguish local vendors and encourage City purchasers to buy local, Miami-based businesses appear in search results with a green checkmark next to their listing and are tagged as “Approved” by Amazon Business.
The City of Miami’s Department of Procurement, which has worked with Amazon Business over the past several months to establish the new capability, will host a series of local and small business webinars in the coming weeks to familiarize local vendors with Amazon Business to help them start selling on the site.
