Flag Unveiling at Miami Riverside Center

Flag Unveiling.jpg

Our special guest that morning will be the Honorable Daniel W. Burgess, Executive Director of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs, who was instrumental in making the “Honor and Remember” flag an official State of Florida symbol.

The Honor and Remember Flag reminds us of the U.S. military lives that have been lost in the defense and service of our national freedoms.  In addition to Florida, the Honor and Remember Flag has been adopted as an official state symbol by twenty-four other states.  It is also officially endorsed by American Gold Star Mothers, Gold Star Wives of America, Blue Star Mothers of America, Vietnam Veterans of America, the Fleet Reserve Association, the Military Officers Association of America, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and the Association of the U.S. Army.

The Honor and Sacrifice Flag was unveiled on the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks and was developed specifically to honor those fallen in all communities of public safety. The Honor and Sacrifice Flag allows all Americans to express a specific statement of thanks in memory of those who heroically gave their lives and to those family members who grieve their loss.

These two flags will serve as visible public reminders to all who enter the MRC of the ultimate sacrifice made by our military service members and first responders in service to our city and nation.
