City of Miami Celebrates New South Shenandoah & Swannanoa Mini Parks

January 28, 2020 - Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, District 4 Commissioner Manolo Reyes, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Office of Capital Improvements (Miami OCI) joined area residents for the joint ribbon-cutting ceremony for the South Shenandoah Mini Park, located at 1197 SW 19 Ave., and Swannanoa Mini Park, located at 1301 SW St.

Residents who participated in the series of community meetings provided substantial input for the final designs. Construction, which dramatically transformed the quality of life in the neighborhoods, was finished in nearly 12 months. Investments from general city funds and park impact fees covered the total project cost of $933,326 for both parks.

Both parks feature new landscaping (trees, sod, and mulch), walkways, furnishings (benches, trash receptacles, bike racks), perimeter walls, signs, lighting, irrigation, and drinking fountains. Swannanoa also includes new playground equipment for young children.

Julio Martinez of JCI International served as the contractor for the projects, while consultant Joseph Webb of AECOM Technical Services provided expert design. Miami OCI team members Alina Hernandez, Project Manager, and Richard Pope, Construction Manager, oversaw every phase of the design and construction.
