Healthy & Thriving Communities

The City of Miami Health Initiative provides access to free, essential health services in every City of Miami neighborhood—bringing care directly to where residents live, work, and gather. Since its launch in 2015, the initiative has grown into a citywide movement, powered by over 30 community partners offering services such as HIV education and testing, youth EKG screenings, and wellness resources tailored to each community’s needs.

Through our collaborative efforts, we’ve delivered more than $6 million in in-kind health services to City of Miami residents—at no cost to them. Each year, we host or support an average of 24 health-focused events, reaching thousands of residents.

Our goal is simple yet bold: to build a healthier, more thriving Miami where every resident—regardless of zip code—has the opportunity to thrive.

In partnership with Nicklaus Children's Hospital, the City of Miami provides free EKG screenings for children and youth ages 5 to 21. These life-saving screenings are offered at City of Miami Summer Camp locations throughout our parks and can help detect potential heart conditions early.

A signed parent/guardian consent form is required.

Ready, Set, Grow! cultivates a love for healthy living and nature through hands-on gardening experiences for children. Each center features a vibrant garden where young learners grow fruits, vegetables, and native plants while discovering the importance of nutrition, physical activity, and environmental health. Through interactive lessons on pollinators, soil science, and plant life cycles, children gain a deeper understanding of where food comes from—and build healthy habits that last a lifetime.

What began as a city-supported community initiative has grown into a self-sustaining non-profit driving change in Little Havana. With foundational funding from the Health Foundation of South Florida, Healthy Little Havana aimed to empower residents to co-create strategies that improve health outcomes, shift systems, and build a sustainable future. The community has implemented resident-led ideas, focusing on policy, environmental, and systems change to promote long-term well-being.
