Senior Rental Assistance Program

Due to guidance surrounding COVID-19, the City is temporarily suspending the intake process of waitlisted persons for this program. We will post updates on this web page, as they develop.

The City of Miami Senior Rental Assistance Program offers assistance to income-eligible (40% Area Median Income) senior households (ages 62 and up) in the City who spend more than 50% of their household income on housing costs AND who live in City assisted rental housing or subsidized buildings within City of Miami limits. The program provides up to $100 a month towards rental housing assistance at eligible properties, for up to a year, for qualifying households.

The application period for this program closed on January 31, 2020. On Friday, February 21, 2020, computerized waitlist lotteries were held for preliminarily eligible applicants in District 2 and District 5. Interested persons can access those waitlists at https://www.miamigov.com/Government/Departments-Organizations/Housing-Community-Development. Waitlist lotteries for the other Districts will be held at a later time, based on the discretion of the respective District.

Applicants were selected for the lottery pool based on a preliminary, face value review of their application. Inclusion in the lottery pool or a District specific waitlist does not mean that the applicant is eligible for this program. Final eligibility is determined at the program’s intake appointment, during which the applicant must produce all the program’s required documents as outlined in the City Resolution 19-0488, in order to prove that the information noted on the application is true and accurate.

Applications in the District specific lottery pool(s) are assigned a random ranking number based on program priority, which then establishes an order for processing the applicants for financial assistance. Those persons on the final District waitlists will receive a letter in the mail to schedule an intake appointment, indicating what required documents must be provided in order to be processed for the assistance. Please note, applicants should expect a delay in the processing of the waitlists.

Those applicants who did not make it into the lottery pool because they did not meet program regulations will receive a letter in the mail indicating that in March 2020.
