Illegal Dumping: is the dumping of any waste
material on public or private property.
Trash that is commonly dumped includes:

• tires
• old furniture
• household garbage
• construction debris
• appliances
• yard waste
• hazardous waste (generally dumped in drums or
barrels)
It is important to know the guidelines for the
proper disposal of your residential refuse.
Sometimes the Solid Waste Department is not able
to collect your refuse due to weight and size
limitations.
Illegal dumping is more than just an eyesore, it
is a criminal offense. It depreciates property
value and attracts crime to the surrounding
area. In addition, discarded waste attracts rats
and endangers children who play in it. Illegally
dumped waste also is unsightly and can decrease
neighbors’ property values. The cost of
collecting illegal dumping affects every citizen
of the City. If you witness an illegal dumping
in progress, obtain the tag number and call the
City of Miami Solid Waste Sanitation Code
Enforcement number at (305)960-2830. After Code
Enforcement has responded, the debris will be
collected from the public right of way.
If you see someone dumping illegally, call (305)
960-2830.
If you see someone dumping what may be hazardous
waste, call 911.
Before you call…
1. Get the license plate number.
2. Get a description of the vehicle.
3. Make a note of what is being dumped.
Throwing trash such
as paper, bottles, cans and food containers on
the ground is littering. Littering is illegal,
harmful to the environment and just looks bad.
The City of Miami Department of Solid Waste is
encouraging residents to reduce litter and
illegal dumping in our communities.
Remember to put
trash in a garbage can; it's just that simple
and everyone can help. You can do your part by
remembering to follow these simple tips:
-
Don't
just drop it. Walk the extra steps to a
garbage can.
-
Cover
and secure any vehicle, truck or trailer
carrying a load.
-
Don't
throw trash out the car window. Keep a
litterbag in your car.
When
visiting parks and recreation areas leave the
area clean for the next person to enjoy.
Remove
flyers from your car or front door before they
are blown into the street.
Pledge to pick up one
piece of litter every day.
Organize a community
cleanup event.
To report littered
areas dial 3-1-1 or call our Sanitation Code
Enforcement division at 305-960-2830.
Just for Kids!
Here’s how you can
help.
Be sure your trash
goes in the trash can, not just near it.
Pick up after
yourself at a picnic or a fast-food restaurant.
Do your part to help
