The Planning Department
provides policy guidance for the future
development of the City of Miami by
preparing neighborhood plans; administering,
interpreting, and preparing amendments to
the Zoning Ordinance and the Miami
Comprehensive Neighborhood Plan; preparing
recommendations to and administering the
Zoning Board, Planning Advisory Board,
Historic and Environmental Preservation
Board, and other hearing boards; and
collecting and analyzing demographic,
physical, social, and economic data on the
City of Miami.
Goals
To enhance the quality of life in the
City of Miami by increasing knowledge of the
City and its neighborhoods, maintaining and
beautifying urban and residential neighborhoods,
promoting sound planning principles and
implementing zoning and land use changes that
will increase the desirability of the City of
Miami as a place to live, work, and visit.
To enhance the quality of service provided to
City customers by streamlining and simplifying
the various permitting and review processes in
order to foster high quality development and
facilitate compliance with applicable
ordinances.
