The City of Miami’s northeast, commonly referred to as
the Upper Eastside, is conveniently, centrally located
and accessible from many points of interested in
Miami-Dade County. The Upper Eastside NET office
services all City areas North of NE 37th Street to NE
87th Street (City limits) and East of NE 4th Court to
sparkling Biscayne Bay.
According to the 2000 Census, this community
reflected a population of 15,322 and it is one of
Miami's most diverse neighborhoods. It has a
multi-ethnic and racial mix that includes high, middle,
and low income residents. Miami's Upper Eastside is an
attractively eclectic community in a traditional
neighborhood environment that imparts a feeling of
permanence, growing wealth, and pride.
There are several neighborhoods East of Biscayne
Boulevard, which share convenient proximity to the
sparkling waters of Biscayne Bay: Bay Point,
Morningside, Belle Meade, Bayside, and Shorecrest are
either on or within a short distance to the bay. Bay
Point and Palm Bay are exclusive residential communities
by the water. Most of the areas within Morningside and
Bayside are designated Historical Districts. Belle
Meade, like her sister communities, features elegant
homes in the Mediterranean style that complement the
lush tropical climate, and aquatic setting of the area.
The majority of the residential population West of
the Boulevard, which is rapidly gentrifying, is Palm
Grove. This area includes Haitian immigrants and young
professionals. Struggling new arrivals absorbed in the
hustle and bustle of daily life, along with resourceful
and creative professionals give this neighborhood a
spirit all its own.
Biscayne Boulevard and NE 79th Street are major
commercial corridors within this neighborhood. In June
2006, the City of Miami designated the MiMo/Biscayne
Boulevard Historic District. (Biscayne Boulevard from NE
50th to NE 77th Street.) This historic district includes
some unique modern commercial buildings, as well as the
largest collection of "Miami Modern" motels in Miami.

On January 9, 2006, FDOT and the Upper Eastside
community celebrated the groundbreaking of the
Boulevard's reconstruction project between NE 37th
Street and NE 87th Street. This project, designed to
improve roadway conditions and safety, and to ease
traffic flow, included complete reconstruction of
Biscayne Boulevard, also know as US 1. The project
included installation of new storm water drainage,
traffic signals, landscaping, sidewalks, and decorative
street lights. This project is expected to be completed
by August 2008.
The Upper Eastside NET office works closely with area
residents, businesses, and local civic and neighborhood
associations. Upper Eastside NET proactively addresses
neighborhood issues, maintains and beautifies public
right of ways, and supports recreational, educational
and cultural events, such as the Rainbow Pride Resource
Fair, Holiday Tree Lighting and Toy Drive, Winter Arts
Festival, Fourth of July, Upper Eastside Green Market,
and Cinco de MiMo.
