SEARCH CITY OF MIAMI:

One Person, Ten Steps

Petroleum run cars are the primary source of the greenhouse gases causing global climate change. Reducing your car and/or fuel usage means big savings for the environment.

Alternative vehicles are fueled by resources other than petroleum. Some alternative fuels are also produced domestically, reducing our dependence on imported oil, and some are derived from renewable sources.

How can you Help

  • Support Miami 21 -- a plan to manage and guide growth, promote anti-sprawl measures, and encourage pedestrian friendly neighborhoods with greenways and widened sidewalks.
  • Walk first, followed by cycling, and then take public transit whenever possible.
  • Carpool to work, events and lunch.
  • Choose to live in urban or dense neighborhoods that promote public transportation options.
  • Buy a hybrid or alternative vehicle.
  • Maintain your car -- get tune-ups, change your air filter, and check your tire pressure regularly.
  • If you are looking to buy a car, factor in fuel efficiency. Trading a car that gets 20 miles per gallon for one that gets 30 miles per gallon will reduce your personal contribution to global warming by about 2 Tons of Carbon Dioxide per year!
