Miami Mayor Manny Diaz Honors Consular Corps of Miami in Reception by the Bay

(Miami, Florida) – City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, joined by the Chairman of the Mayor’s International Council, Miami Commissioner Joe Sanchez, hosted an annual reception in honor of the Miami Consular Corps on Wednesday, November 28, at the Coral Reef Yacht Club, 2484 South Bayshore Drive, Miami. On Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 Mayor Manny Diaz met with Mr. Daniel O. Scioli Vice President of Argentina in City Hall. During their meeting, the Mayor and Vice President Daniel O. Scioli discussed the progress of Miami 21 and the Miami Police Department. The Mayor also described the upcoming Mayors Hemispheric Forum and the importance of Mayors of the hemisphere joining together to discuss similar issues facing the region.

City of Miami Launches Toy Drive for Children Affected by Tropical Storm Noel in the Dominican Republic

(Miami, Florida) – Miami Mayor Manny Diaz kicked off a toy drive on Thursday, November 29th for the children of the Dominican Republic at Juguetelandia by Valsan, 2547 N.W. 20 Street in Allapattah. The Mayor was joined by Miami Commissioner Angel Gonzalez, Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Miami Manuel Almanzar and President of Juguetelandia Ruben Valdes. read more »

Mayor Diaz Addresses Senior Bankers of UBS

Miami Mayor Manny Diaz was chosen by UBS, a leading global financial firm, to speak on leadership to a group of senior bankers as part of the investment bank's training program. A team of UBS managing directors from around the world visited City Hall where Mayor Diaz emphasized that setting goals and hard work are key to his formula on leading the City.

A group of 150 senior level bankers from UBS convened in Miami for a closer look at our local business, political and cultural leadership. Miami was chosen as one of 3 emerging international cities by UBS as a site for their SUMMIT program focusing on leadership skills training. The Swiss based bank operates in 50 countries and is a major sponsor of Miami´s Art Basel.

Mayor Diaz Hosts First Mayors Hemispheric Forum

On September 25 and 26, Mayor Manny Diaz hosted 18 Mayors from the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean at the first Mayors Hemispheric Forum. The two day-day forum, organized in partnership with CEOs for Cities, the U.S. Conference of Mayors, Manhattan Institute and the Mayor’s Institute on City Design, aimed to strengthen ties between Miami City Hall and mayors from across the hemisphere. The forum also served as an opportunity for the region's big-city stewards to offer insights and success stories that might be helpful to their counterparts. Mayor Announces Partnership Between City of Miami and Spanish Soccer Team Real Madrid

On Tuesday, May 23rd, Mayor Manny Diaz was joined by soccer superstar Emilio Butragueño, VP of Real Madrid, to announce the partnership between the City of Miami and the Spanish soccer team Real Madrid to establish a Summer Soccer Academy in the Orange Bowl. This announcement is part of a larger plan of cooperation between the City and Real Madrid to transform Miami into a world class soccer hub in the Americas.

Mayor’s International Council participates in FISPAL Latin Food Fair and XXVII CAMACOL Hemispheric Congress

As part of its international promotion activities, the Mayor’s International Council participated in the FISPAL Latin Food Fair and the XXVII CAMACOL Hemispheric Congress the week of May 10 – 12, 2006. Over 200 companies and governments from throughout Latin America, Spain and the United States participated in this event whose goal is to match food producers from Latin America with distributors in the United States.

Annual PODER Forum takes place at Miami's City Hall

On Friday, April 28th the Annual PODER Forum took place at Miami's City Hall. The day-long conference brought together some of the Hemisphere's political and business decision-makers, including Miguel Insulza, Secretary General of the OAS; Luis Alberto Moreno, President of the Inter-American Development Bank; Dr. Emilio Gonzalez, Director of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services, among others. Commissioner Joe Sanchez, Chairman of the Mayor's International Council, opened the Forum by welcoming all the participants to Miami and its historic City Hall. MIC Board Member Dr. Eduardo Padrón also spoke at the event, highlighting Miami's role as the meeting point of ideas and cultures in the Western Hemisphere.
