City of Miami PAD Program
Thousands of people die each year from sudden cardiac arrest caused by an abnormal heart rhythm known as Ventricular Fibrillation (V-Fib). Whenever this deadly rhythm is present and left untreated for a prolonged period of time, the result will be fatal. Many studies have proven that the early use of an Automatic External Defibrillator or AED, can quickly reverse this deadly heart rhythm and improve a person’s chance at surviving by up to 70 percent.
Many municipal Fire-Rescue Departments have been proactive in implementing AED campaign including our very own. The City of Miami Fire Rescue Department has been involved in educating our community in AED use, CPR classes, and the clinical management of Public Access Defibrillator Programs throughout the city. The City of Miami has routinely ranked amongst the top ten cities in the nation with the use of an AED and high survival rates. Our city and department recognize the importance of this programs and will continue our commitment by offering these services in an effort to save more lives.
