As part of the City’s reorganization, Mayor Manny Diaz and the Board of Commissioners created the Office of Film, Arts, Culture, and Entertainment. In June 2002, the Mayor and Commission also created an Arts & Entertainment Council. After nine months of study and a series of public hearings attended by nearly 1,000 citizens, the council has developed a work program designed to support four key objectives:

To seek additional ways to focus the attention of the world on Miami's emergence as a global leader in the visual arts; To build on Miami's role, as designated by Variety Magazine, as one of the top five film and television hubs in the world; To create a strong line-up of top quality, well-produced special events appealing to Miami residents and visitors to our community; And to support the emergence of a vibrant, 24-hour downtown by promoting the development of live music venues and nightclubs. The F.A.C.E Office is to serve as the liaison for the Miami Arts and Entertainment Council as it strives to establish goals and objectives for Miami’s ever growing arts and cultural community. Moreover, the department is responsible for film and special events permitting in our City.
