MAYOR MANNY DIAZ SIGNS
DECLARATION OF EMERGENCY IN PREPARATION FOR HURRICANE WILMA |
(Miami, Florida)— Recognizing the
importance of advanced preparation to a city that may be affected by a
dangerous hurricane, City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz declared a local
state of emergency today as Miami continues to be in the projected path
of Hurricane Wilma. Among the results of the declaration is the waiver
of the procedures and formalities otherwise required by the Miami City
Charter and Code pertaining to the appropriation of funds, making
contracts, incurring obligations, employment of permanent or temporary
workers, and obtaining and distributing equipment with or without
compensation. The City will be able to mobilize resources right away in
order to respond quickly to the community’s needs that may arise because
of Hurricane Wilma. This move is also in line with Governor Jeb Bush’s
declaration earlier in the week and will facilitate the movement of
funds from the State of Florida to the City.
