Month
(Miami, FL)- City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones of
District 5 will join the 2007 Haitian Heritage month committee members and
residents from the Little Haiti community to officially kick-off Haitian
Heritage Month at a press conference on Tuesday, May 1st, 2007 at the Freedom
Garden, located at 6135 N. Miami Avenue at 10:00 a.m. This years theme is
“Celebrating the Past, Building the Future”.

Affordable Rental Building
Miami, FL -- Some 90 days after City of Miami officials gathered outside a
vacant, four-unit residential building located at 1405 NW 60th Street in the
Liberty City area, they will gather a second time to celebrate the completion of
$200,000 in rehabilitation work to the building in just three months time. |

Wake Up Miami Survey Results Reveal Top Concerns of Overtown
Residents
(Miami, FL) − City of Miami Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones
commissioned a study in Overtown, one of four economically depressed
areas in District Five. According to the study, Overtown residents
believe the community’s most pressing issues are: drug-related
crimes, inadequate education to perform successfully on standardized
test, homelessness, the lack of professional services inside the
community and unemployment. These are the findings of a recent
survey taken in Overtown as part of the Wake Up Miami campaign,
spearheaded by Commissioner Spence-Jones.
