Dear District 5 Constituents:

Welcome to the District 5 Website. First and foremost, I would like to thank you for allowing me to be your voice, entrusting me with the future of your neighborhoods. I am here not because I had political aspirations, but because I was saddened by the conditions in my neighborhood. I come to city government with a renewed hope for the future of District 5, a hope that is seeded in your wants and needs for change.

Since becoming elected, I have worked tirelessly to set the wheels into motion to help you reclaim and transform our long neglected neighborhoods into the best place to live, work and play. This is my mission…our mission. Accountability and accessibility are the heart of my administration.

I envision District 5 as vibrant communities with small and big business prosperity, residents working and in affordable homes of their own.

As your city commissioner, I am committed to making all neighborhoods share in this rebirth. I cannot do this alone, I need your help. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “There is nothing more dangerous than to build a society with a large segment of people in that society that feel that they have nothing to lose. People, who have stake in that society, protect that society, but when they don’t have it, they unconsciously want to destroy it.” Today is a new day, a day that begins with a renewed hope, an energy fueled by our desire to take charge of what is rightfully ours, our communities. I will lead the charge, and together we will make District 5 an awesome place.

As stakeholders in our future, we vow to change our quality of life by becoming active participants. We have a long road ahead, and there will be bumps in the road along the way, but together we can reach our goal of becoming the best place in the City of Miami to live, work and play.

During the state of the District Address I presented to you my plan to make this all happen, a four year plan, which was driven by your input. It’s the road map to our future, a future filled with economic development, real affordable housing, viable small businesses, support for seniors, help for the homeless, empowering youth and strategies to combat crime. I vow with your help to bring a better quality of life to you and your families.

This is just the beginning and I will look to you for direction in the future. Let’s all start by taking pride in District 5! Today is a new day in District 5.

Sincerely,

Michelle Spence-Jones
