Happy Mother's Day From Commissioner Suarez

The entire District 4 office would like to wish all women celebrating this special day a Happy Mother's Day. We hope it is full of family, fun, and thanks well-earned for all that you have done and continue to do as mother figures!

Beautifying District 4 as well as the entire City of Miami is a major focus for Commissioner Suarez.

That is why on National Arbor Day, April 24th, the staff headed to Shenandoah Park along with the Neighborhood Enhancement Team to assist with the planting of thirty trees along neighborhood streets. The goals and benefits are ultimately an increased tree canopy, a more beautiful city, and an improved quality of life for the residents.

Commissioner Suarez Curbs Neighborhood Speeding

During the month of April, Commissioner Suarez spoke at several traffic-calming ground breakings. These projects will curtail speeding in our neighborhoods through the creation of traffic circles, speed bumps, and other instruments.  As a result, our children, streets, and citizens will be safer.

Commissioner Suarez’ philosophy is to promote, support, and celebrate orgs in our community that provide much needed services to our residents. That is why on Thursday, April 9th, Commissioner Suarez along with Senior Aide, Yariel Diaz, presented Neighborhood Enhancement Award checks to the following orgs:  No More Tears Project, Centromater, Allapattah Community AA, and Animal Welfare Society of SoFla.

Commissioner Suarez Calls Sunshine Meeting regarding Trans Issues

On March 24th, Commissioner Suarez lead a sunshine meeting with city and county officials on funding a  Tri-Rail platform at All-Aboard’s Grand Central Station, bringing the commuter rail into the heart of downtown. After Suarez played a key role in the negotiations to fund the project, the City commission unanimously passed a resolution supporting Tri-Rail in downtown Miami at the ensuing commission meeting.

Hurricane Preparedness

Commissioner Suarez Leads Hurricane Preparedness for Seniors

In the event of a weather emergency, such as a hurricane, it is important to be prepared. On April 29th Commissioner Suarez lead an exercise on being hurricane-ready for local senior citizens at Centro Badia. While the residents enjoyed meals, City staff spoke to them about hurricane-related risks, and collected emergency contact information. There is no such thing as being "too prepared!"

Affordable Housing Roundtable Discussions

Commissioner Suarez is resolved to combat the lack of affordable housing options for our residents. To this end, he has gathered periodically with community and industry leaders at City Hall to conduct affordable housing roundtable discussions, during which viable solutions to this city-wide issue have been discussed.

Neighborhood Enhancement Team

Commissioner Suarez alongside the great members of the Neighborhood Enhancement Team. NET is a department that assists in enforcing the City’s code, and provides information to constituents on the myriad of resources available to them through the City.  They work daily to improve the quality and accessibility of these services, easily accessible in your own neighborhood NET office. Twice a week during the months of March and April, Commissioner Suarez and his staff visited the Englewood neighborhood and gained feedback from residents regarding ongoing capital improvement projects to their sewers and sidewalks. Projects such as this are completed with the intention of improving the residents’ daily lives, and Commissioner Suarez believes maintaining a pulse on the residents’ thoughts as to the quality of work being performed is crucial.

Mother's Day Events at District 4 Senior Centers

Commissioner Suarez and his staff spent days at two area Senior Centers, La Badia & Smathers, to celebrate Mother's Day. A great time was had by all in attendance, as the live DJ, raffle, desserts, and dancing kept everyone rocking throughout both parties.

Commissioner Suarez

On November 17th 2009, Francis X. Suarez was sworn in as Commissioner of District 4, and so began a new era in the sprawling district which runs from 69th Ave. to U.S.1. Prior to running for public office, Commissioner Suarez founded Edge Title Company, Inc., a successful real-estate and mortgage firm. Commissioner Suarez is also an attorney by profession, specializing in real-estate and corporate transactions. He began his law career as an associate at the Miami law firm of Haley Sinagra Paul and Toland, PA., where he focused on commercial litigation matters and general transactional cases. He then went on to serve as general counsel to Doctors Management Group, a private organization, which provides consulting services for those in the medical field. He is also a certified member of the Florida and Federal Bar Associations.
