My Safe Florida Home Program
 

This program is part of a statewide program designed to assist eligible homeowners retrofit their homes with hurricane protection. Homeowners can request a free home inspection from the State, and use the resulting report to obtain hurricane protection for their homes; the City of Miami will provide a grant of up to $5,000 to qualified low-to-moderate income homeowners, residing in the City of Miami, to pay for the mitigation.

Program Objectives
  1. Prevent moderately declining neighborhoods in the City from further deteriorating by providing assistance for rehabilitation.
  2. Provide safe and decent housing to residents in the City.
  3. Encourage interest in preservation in the broader neighborhood through rehabilitation activities.
  4. Partner with contractors and the construction industry in providing access to jobs by encouraging the hiring of neighborhood residents.

Eligible Rehabilitations:

 

All soft and hard costs relating to the hurricane hardening of a single family unit.

Eligible Properties:

 

Single family, detached, site-built homeowner-occupied located in the City of Miami. Homes must be in sound condition, lead free, and free and clear of any municipal liens.

 

Eligible

Owners:

Households with income less than or equal to, 80% of the area median income adjusted for family size.

 

Maximum Assistance:

How does the program work? 

1.      You must have applied for a FREE inspection with the My Safe Florida Home program during its open application period. Please note that as of Summer 2008, the State of Florida closed the application period for inspections in relation to the My Safe Florida Home Program.
 

2.      The Florida Department of Financial Services would have sent a qualified inspection firm or inspector to contact you and schedule your FREE inspection.
 

3.      An inspection report should have been sent to you, the homeowner. If it was not, please contact the My Safe Florida Home program at 1-866-513-6734.  
 

4.      If you (the homeowner) are in receipt of the inspection report, contact the City of Miami at (305) 416-1770 for further instruction.
