Miami Unleaded Program
The
Miami Unleaded program was launched in mid-2005 to help prevent lead poisoning
cases in low- to moderate- income homes and apartments. Lead is a metal than
can be found in paint used in homes built in the U.S. prior to 1978, as well as
in outdoor soil, old pipes, old painted furniture or toys, and more. With time,
lead-based paints flake, chip, peel, and create dust, which can be unknowingly
swallowed by young children. It is proven that lead poisoning can cause
irreversible physical and mental disabilities in children including learning
disabilities, hyperactivity, decreased growth, and more. Miami Unleaded provides
up to $15,000 in assistance to eligible Miami-Dade County residents, to reduce
dangerous levels of lead in eligible, lead-contaminated homes.
