The primary
function of the Office of Communications is to
effectively disseminate information and
messages to the media and the community as
it relates to the City of Miami’s
administration, initiatives, events and
programs.
The Department utilizes various
communication vehicles in an effort to
expand its outreach. These include
photography, television, print, radio, the
internet or a combination of any or all of
these mediums. In addition, this office
works collaboratively with all City
departments including the City Manager,
Commissioners and the Office of the Mayor;
to assist with media/community outreach,
press conferences and presentations.
The Office of Communications is charged with the City of
Miami’s government access station. The
overall programming goal is to inform
residents by creating a diverse schedule
that includes public meetings of
significance to residents, educational
programs, and some event coverage. In order
to diversify programming and educate
viewers, the channel also broadcasts some
programming created by other state, federal,
and/or local municipalities or agencies. The
Office also aims to create programming in
Spanish and Creole in order to reach more
residents. City of
Miami Television airs four types of
original programming created by the Office
of Communications:
series, special
reports, public service announcements and
public meetings.
