H&R Block Seeks City Residents
for Financial Services Training and Potential Employment

Miami, FL (September 2, 2005) – Tax time is just around the corner, and the City of Miami’s Department of Community Development and H&R Block have partnered together early, to make sure this tax season is a successful one, by announcing their newest initiative -- creating potential job opportunities for City of Miami residents during the 2006 tax season.

As the nation’s largest tax preparer, H&R Block is looking to hire more than 2,000 Miami-Dade residents for seasonal positions this tax season, including tax professionals, receptionists, client service coordinators, and more. City of Miami residents can take advantage of a special offer that allows them to enroll in H&R Block’s highly regarded Tax Training School (TTS) for a deeply discounted rate of $70, including the cost of tuition and books. That’s over 50 percent in savings, as these courses traditionally range from $149 to $279 per registrant. Plus, the City of Miami will reimburse the full cost of enrollment ($70) to the first 500 City residents who successfully complete the 66-hour Basic Income Tax course, pass the final tax course exam with a score of 80 percent or higher, and secure a seasonal position with H&R Block. No high school or college diploma is necessary to register, and all applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Successful completion and passage of the Basic Income tax course, is not a guarantee of employment by H&R Block.

Those applicants who complete the Basic Income Tax course and pass the final tax course exam with a score of 80 percent or higher, will be offered an interview opportunity for available tax professional positions at one of the City’s H&R Block locations.
TTS classes commence on September 12th and are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends at select H&R Block locations throughout the City of Miami. For more information or to register for TTS classes, please call 305-225-1668 or drop by one of the South Florida Workforce’s One-Stop Career Centers noted below. Hours of operation at One-Stop Career Centers are Monday-Wednesday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Additional Center locations can be found by calling (877) 872-JOBS (5627).
