Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones
and Model City Trust Announce Important Initiatives Aimed at
Improving Affordable Housing and Economic Development in
District 5

(Miami, Florida)— City of Miami Mayor
Manny Diaz and Commissioner Spence-Jones
will join Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, city administrators, civic
leaders and area residents to announce the “Reclaim and Rebuild Our
Community” campaign on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 10:30 a.m.
at 1301 NW 58 Terrace in Miami, Florida.
The “Reclaim and Rebuilding Our Community” campaign will focus on
housing and economic development in District 5. As part of the campaign
Mayor Diaz along with Commissioner Spence-Jones and Congresswoman Carrie
P. Meek, will announce the “Live Your Dream Initiative”, a partnership
between the City of Miami and the Carrie P. Meek Foundation. This
initiative will assist in preparing young single mothers for
homeownership by taking them step by step through the home buying
process. Emphasis will be placed on helping single mothers establish or
repair their credit and financial management.
During the press conference, Mayor Diaz and Commissioner Spence-Jones
will present Shenetra Duffie, (a new homeowner) with the keys to her new
home located at 1301 NW 58th Terrace. The home was constructed by Foster
Construction of South Florida, Inc. and was funded partially through the
Model City Trust project.
