(Miami, Florida)— City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, Commissioner Spence-Jones joined by Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, city administrators, civic leaders and area residents announced the kick off of the “Reclaim and Rebuild Our Community” campaign.

“District 5 will benefit immeasurably from the increased home ownership and affordable housing being offered. I am very pleased to see this level of positive change happening,” said City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz.

The “Reclaim and Rebuilding Our Community” campaign will focus on a variety of acute needs in District 5. As part of the campaign Mayor Diaz along with Commissioner Spence-Jones and Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek, will form a partnership between the City of Miami and the Carrie P. Meek Foundation to assist in preparing young single mothers for homeownership by taking them through the home buying process.

”Today we begin rebuilding our neighborhoods with cleaner streets, better schools and homes that we can all be proud of,” said Commissioner Michelle Spence-Jones. ”I am especially excited about our partnership in reclaiming and rebuilding our communities as over the next few months we will unveil a plan to bring economic development to our major corridors.”

Mayor Diaz and Commissioner Spence-Jones presented Shenetra Duffie, a new homeowner with the keys to her new home located in Model City area.

The home was constructed by Foster Construction of South Florida, Inc. and was funded partially through the Model City Trust project.
