Roll out of
bed and into the park this summer at City of Miami, Comcast and Radio
Disney present PJs in the Park, a first-of-its-kind event for
children ages 3 to 8. On Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Kennedy Park,
2400 South Bayshore Drive, from 4pm till twilight, children and
their parents are invited out for a wild and wacky day dressed in their
pjs and showing off their best bed heads (yes, that is one of the many
friendly contests).
Giveaways will abound (one lucky child will even walk away with a
free Kid’s Dream Room) and all activities on site are free
participation. “This day is designed for parent/child collaboration,”
said Julie Mansfield, director of Special Events for the City of Miami.
“We wanted to make sure we put the emphasis on families. How much fun
did you have playing silly games with your parents? That’s the
atmosphere we wanted, where moms and dads can forget the stresses of
life, even if for a few hours, and enjoy a bit of good, clean,
competitive games with their kids,” Mansfield said.
Families will enjoy cold Macarthur Dairy beverages and participate in
parent/child games such as “Diaper the Mommies” and Open Wide Daddies”
as finally children will have revenge for the baby food and baby clothes
they were made to wear. While listening to the broadcast of Radio Disney
onsite, parents will be given the opportunity to bond all afternoon with
their children, especially when they participate in the three legged
races. When parents are exhausted they can wrangle their children over
to the Amigos for Kids story zone where local story tellers will
entertain children with magical tales of other worlds. Kids will also
have be given safety “passports” with their picture and fingerprint.
The mid-summer heat will be curtailed by a Cooling Station with mist
machines that will keep the summer temperatures at bay. Just about every
family is sure to go home with a prize or giveaway—including Stride Rite
shoes, sneakers, Office Depot back to school packs, sunglasses, Metro
Zoo family passes, Discovery Cruises and much more—along with the
priceless memories that come with spending a free day in the park!
The growing list of partners includes Comcast, Radio Disney, Amigos for
Kids, Macarthur Dairy, Miami Children’s Hospital Health on Wheels,
Publix and Wal-Mart. For more information call (305) 642-1271.
