(Miami, Florida)— City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and City
Commissioners participated in the grand opening of the first City of
Miami mini-dump during a ribbon cutting ceremony held Saturday,
September 10, 2005 at the Department of Solid Waste headquarters,
located at 1290 NW 20 Street.
“This marks another step forward for the Clean up Miami Campaign. The
facility will allow citizens to get rid of items and unwanted debris
sooner than their usual pick up days,” said Mayor Manny Diaz. “I
encourage all citizens to take advantage of this free service and help
maintain our city clean.”
In addition to their regular pick-up dates, the Department of Solid
Waste will accept materials to be dumped at the Department of Solid
Waste site, seven days a week. Residents can bring their trash items to
be dumped for free without a tonnage fee. The items accepted for
disposal are: bagged tree trimmings, grass clippings and leaves,
construction or demolition debris, large appliances and up to four
automobile tires (no rims). Residents cannot bring to the dump site raw
garbage (regular home garbage), automobile parts and batteries, gas
tanks, cylinders or drums, paint containers or hazardous materials.
Also, residents must bring proof of City of Miami residency (such as
Driver’s License or Utility bill) in order to use the dumping site.
“The City of Miami’s Department Solid of Waste continues to improve
service to City residents” said Mario Soldevilla, Director of the Solid
Waste Department. “This enhancement comes at an opportune time for
residents and our department as we work together to get rid of the
debris left over after Hurricane Katrina.”
The City of Miami Mini-Dump will be open seven days a week, from 7:00 am
– 5:30 pm, except Martin Luther King and Christmas Day.
The City of Miami collects more than 104,000 tons of trash, 20,000 tons
of litter collection, 5,000 tons of recyclables each year. Under the
Mayor’s Clean up Miami campaign, 11,400 tons of garbage has been
collected with over 300,000 hours of manpower invested in providing
services to its citizens.
