Miami Recovers Program Has Monies Available in 2006

-Free Assistance Available for City of Miami Renters,
Homeowners with Damaged Homes Due to Hurricane Wilma
-

Miami, Florida (January 5, 2006) —  The City of Miami’s Miami Recovers program still has funds available to assist those City residents whose homes suffered serious damages due to Hurricane Wilma in October of last year. The Miami Recovers program offers one-time forgivable loans to low- and moderate-income* renters and homeowners whose places of residence (within City of Miami boundaries) were damaged by the storm.

Residents who were renting units in City of Miami buildings (at the time of Hurricane Wilma), that were later officially “condemned” after the storm by the City’s Building Department, can qualify to receive security deposit assistance at their new place of residence, as well as additional funds to cover moving costs, for a total of up to $2,800 in assistance. The new place of residence does not need to be located within City of Miami boundaries.

City homeowners who suffered significant damage due to Hurricane Wilma can also potentially qualify for up to $30,000 in assistance towards roof repairs, window and/or hurricane shutter installation, and drywall/interior repairs. The homeowner must be the occupant of the property and must be current in their property taxes. To request an application, or for additional details on the Miami Recovers program, please call 305-960-4640. Restrictions apply.

Applications are available solely at the City of Miami’s 13 NET (Neighborhood Enhancement Team) offices. Miami Recovers is run via a cooperation between the City’s Department of Community Development and NET offices. Please note, assistance via Miami Recovers is extended on a first come, first serve basis and is based on funding availability. It is only provided one time per address.
