Groundbreaking Ceremony
Marks the Start of a State of the Arts Park for the
Little Haiti Neighborhood

(Miami, Florida)—City of Miami
Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Jeffery Allen, District 5, will be
joined by elected officials, architect Bernard Zyscovich, Joseph C.
Cerrone III, President, Recreational Design and Construction, Inc., city
administrators, a youth soccer league, civic leaders and local neighbors
for the groundbreaking ceremony for the Little Haiti Park
Project—Soccer and Recreation Center, on Tuesday, October 11th, 2005,
4:00pm., at 301 NE 62nd Street.
The Little Haiti Park Project will be built in two phases and aims to
bring a first class recreational, social and sports complex with a
Caribbean flavor to suit the expectations of the majority of the Haitian
community in this area.
The scope of work encompasses one FIFA regulation soccer field, one
practice soccer field, 10 station fitness trail, sports lighting, fixed
bleachers with restrooms, concession and field storage areas below the
bleachers, toddler playground and splash park, with open picnic
shelters, open domino park shelters and a field maintenance building.
The Recreation Center will be 6,000 sq. ft. of space that will include
an aerobics room, arts & crafts room, a multi purpose room, the area NET
office and an exercise room. A 4,000 sq. ft. area includes the park
offices, multi-purpose spaces, storage areas and mechanical rooms. The
entire project is ADA compliant and will have a parking area with over
200 parking spaces.
The cost of construction has been estimated at 6 million dollars and the
funding source is Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond
Dollars.
