Mayor Manny Diaz and City Manager Joe Arriola, joined by, Joseph C.
Cerrone III, President and Mike Rozos, Vice President, Recreational
Design and Construction, Inc., a youth soccer league, civic leaders and
local neighbors celebrated the groundbreaking of the Little Haiti Park
Project—Soccer and Recreation Center. The anticipated site will be
located at 6301 NE 2 Avenue, Miami, Florida.
“The Little Haiti Park Project will finally provide residents with the
opportunity to enjoy a park right in their backyard,” states City of
Miami Mayor Manny Diaz. “This project will enhance Little Haiti’s rich
culture and will allow children to play soccer or any other activity
that may be of interest at a facility in their very own neighborhood.”
The Little Haiti Park Project will be built in two phases and aims to
bring a first class recreational, social and sports complex with a
Caribbean flavor to suit the expectations of the majority of the Haitian
community in this area.
The scope of work encompasses one FIFA regulation soccer field, one
practice soccer field, 10 station fitness trail, sports lighting, fixed
bleachers with restrooms, concession and field storage areas below the
bleachers, toddler playground and splash park, with open picnic
shelters, open domino park shelters and a field maintenance building.
The Recreation Center will be 6,000 sq. ft. of space that will include
an aerobics room, arts & crafts room, a multi purpose room, the area NET
office and an exercise room. A 4,000 sq. ft. area includes the park
offices, multi-purpose spaces, storage areas and mechanical rooms. The
entire project is ADA compliant and will have a parking area with over
200 parking spaces.
The cost of construction has been estimated at 6 million dollars and the
funding source is Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond
Dollars.
