Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Johnny Winton to Kick-Off Grand Promenade Entertainment District
--Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Centered on Street Festival Theme--

(Miami, FL)- Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Johnny Winton (SEOPW CRA Chairman) will be joined by CRA Board Members, community leaders, business and club owners for a ribbon cutting ceremony of the Grand Promenade Entertainment District on Friday, July 29, 2005 at 5:30p.m at NW 1st Avenue and NW 10th Street.

What is now being called the “Grand Promenade” was once the Miami Railway, which ran from the FEC tracks at NW 1st avenue eastward between 10th and 11th streets serving adjacent warehouses all the way to Pier 5 across Biscayne Boulevard. Today, a portion of this stretch has been renovated, improved, and beautified to provide a grand walkway to be shared with vehicular traffic to support the abutting businesses in the Entertainment District.

The ultimate goal is to have various shops and restaurants facing the Grand Promenade, which will stretch from Biscayne Boulevard deep into the heart of Overtown, serving 24-hour Entertainment District in Park West, as well as the Blues and Jazz Entertainment District, which is synonymous with Overtown.

As apart of the ceremony Mayor Diaz, Commissioner Winton and attendees will be led on a walking tour of the Grand Promenade.
