(Miami, Florida)- City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz, along with Downtown area merchants and city administrators will celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony for the Downtown Infrastructure Streets, Phase I, on Thursday, February 2, 2006, at 10:30am.  The location for the groundbreaking ceremony will be SW 2^nd Street and SW 1^st Court (SW Corner). 

The groundbreaking marks the beginning of yet another important capital improvements project which consists of the milling and resurfacing, the replacements of broken sidewalk, curb and gutter replacements, addition of ADA compliant ramps, sewer rehabilitation and limited landscaping of several streets in the Downtown core:

NW 5^th Street from NW 3^rd Avenue to NE 2^nd Avenue
NW 3^rd Avenue from NW 1^st Street to NW 5^th Street
NW 2^nd Street from NW 3^rd Avenue to NW 2^nd Avenue
SW/NW 1^st Avenue from SW 2^nd Street to NW 5^th Street
SW 2^nd Street from S. North River Drive to SE 2^nd Avenue
SW 3^rd Street from S. North River Drive to S. Miami Avenue
SE 4^th Street from S. Miami Avenue to SE 1^st Avenue
SW 1^st Court from SW 3^rd Street to SW 1^st Street
N. Miami Court from W. Flagler Street to NW 1^st Street
NE 3^rd Avenue from E. Flagler Street to NE 2^nd Street

Funding for the project was provided by City of Miami Homeland Defense Neighborhood Improvement Bond Dollars.  The total cost of the project is estimated at $3,640,175.
