City Kids
Return from Gospel Trip to Japan
|
Who: City of Miami’s City Kids
Choir ages 11 to 18
20 inner city kids
Where: Miami International Airport, Continental Airlines Arrival
Terminal
When: Tuesday, July 19, 2005 at 7:45pm
Why: The City Kids Choir will be returning from Kagoshima, Japan
where they participated in a cultural exchange program. They performed
gospel songs for the Mayor of Kagoshima and did a joint concert with a
youth gospel group from Kagoshima which was aired live over the
internet. The students sang both Japanese and English gospel songs.
During their stay, the City Kids visited Japanese schools, city sights
and learnt about the Japanese culture.
How: The City of Kagoshima, the sister city of the City of Miami,
extended an invitation to the City Kids choir to visit and share
American gospel music. Recently, gospel music has gained popularity in
Japan and Mayor Manny Diaz saw this as an opportunity to enhance the
cultural exchange program and build stronger international relationships
between the cities and their youth.
