WHAT: The City of Miami Civilian
Investigative Panel (CIP) will conduct public hearings to obtain eye
witness accounts and expert testimony on matters arising from the Free
Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) Conference held in Miami from November
17-21, 2003.
All members of the public are invited to attend. Subject to time
availability, the Panel may hear comments from the public. Persons
interested in addressing the Panel are strongly encouraged to contact
the CIP via telephone 305-579-2444 or e-mail
srichardson@ci.miami.fl.us
prior to January 13, 2006.
WHO: The CIP has authority to conduct investigations, inquiries and
public hearings into allegations of misconduct by City of Miami police
officers, review policies of the police department, make factual
determinations, facilitate resolutions and propose recommendations to
the City Manager and Chief of Police. Panel members serve on a volunteer
basis and have committed several hours to the mandate of their office.

Coconut Grove, Florida
Miami TV-Channel 9, the city’s government access channel, will broadcast
the hearings live.
