Miami, FL – The City of Miami’s
Purchasing Department will be honored with the National Purchasing
Institute (NPI) 2005 Achievement in Excellence in Procurement Award on
Monday, August 1, 2005. This award recognizes organizational excellence
in public procurement and demonstrates excellence by measuring
innovation, professionalism, productivity, e-procurement, and leadership
attributes of the procurement organization.
This honor is fitting for the City of Miami Purchasing Department, as it
is one of only a handful of Purchasing Departments throughout the nation
to have the entire professional purchasing staff nationally certified.
“We are grateful that this prestigious organization has recognized the
department for its efforts to maintain an open and fair procurement
process while maintaining high benchmarking standards and implementing
best practices in my department,” said Chief Procurement Officer Glenn
Marcos. “This award should be attributed to the leadership of City
Manager Joe Arriola, Chief Financial Officer Linda Haskins, and of
course my hard working staff that has raised the bar for municipal
purchasing practices.”
The NPI 2005 Achievement in Excellence in Procurement Award will be
presented during the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP)
Business/Award Luncheon. The luncheon is a part of the NIGP 60th Annual
Forum and Exposition in Anaheim, California, which starts this Saturday,
July 30th thru Wednesday, August 3rd.
The NIGP forum is the only annual national educational conference
exclusively for public procurement professionals designed for
professional development, to educate themselves about current and future
commodities and services in the marketplace, share new ideas and
innovative techniques, and to collaborate and network with procurement
officials throughout the nation, to improve on delivery of services to
City departments and the general public.
In May of this year, the Purchasing Department was also the recipient of
the Florida Association of Public Purchasing Officers (FAPPO) 2005 Award
for Excellence in Public Procurement.
