General Maximo Gomez Sign Unveiling

(Miami, FL May 19, 2017) - In honor of Cuban Independence Day, Commissioner Francis Suarez and guests will be honoring a hero of the Cuban War of Independence, General Maximo Gomez. As Cuba's military commander in its struggle for independence from Spain, General Gomez is a towering figure in Cuban history. 30 years ago, the City of Miami and Miami-Dade County co-designated SW 22nd Avenue as “Generalísimo Máximo Gómez Avenue," but over time the signs announcing this have fallen into disrepair.
