City of Miami Parks and Recreation Department is constantly trying to offer new recreational opportunities to the community, some of which is listed below and throughout our recreation section.
Different sport leagues are run throughout the year at different parks. All participants must be registered at the park they represent in order to participate. Leagues provide children with the opportunity to experience the thrill of competition, learn about team work and the exhilaration of winning as well as the lessons that come with losing by participating in our leagues. Some of the sports that we organize leagues for are:
- 5-on-5 Flag Football
- Basketball
- Soccer
- Volleyball
- Kickball/T-ball
- 3-on-3 Basketball
- Co-ed Softball
- 5-on-5 Football League
To find out when seasons start or to register your child - contact your local park.
The goal of the Miami Love Project is to provide alternative programs to youth at risk through collaboration with the public and private sectors along with the support of the community. The program was founded in 1994 by Barbara Wade and has grown into a successful endeavor which has encouraged many of City of Miami's youths to focus on positive role models and get involved in safe and fun activities.
Many regularly scheduled activities such as the HEAT Basketball League give participants the opportunity to interact with professional and semi-professional athletes as well as gain civic awareness by participating in special events such as Mile of Men March, the Neighborhood Role Models Program and the Conflict Resolution Team.
The Miami Love Project has successfully established partnerships with the Florida Marlins, the Miami Heat, Nike, the University of Miami and Miami-Dade College to facilitate access to a series of exceptional experiences that would otherwise be unavailable to the population served by this program.
Thanks to the hard work of Barbara Wade and her dedicated staff and the sponsors Miami Love works with, a dramatic difference is made in the life of these youth. For more information on the program please contact Barbara Wade at (305) 416-1323.
