City of Miami Assists Residents In Filing for the IRS Economic Stimulus Package
(Miami, FL)- The City of Miami is joining forces with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and its partners to assist residents who qualify for the Economic Stimulus Package (ESP) in ensuring that they actually receive the incentive. The IRS is scheduled to send out the “tax rebate” between May and July with the goal of encouraging spending and boosting the economy. MAYOR MANNY DIAZ TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE BELEN JESUIT SPORTS HALL OF FAME
MIAMI, FL.— City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz will be inducted into the Belen Jesuit Sports Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 6:30 pm. During his time as a student at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School, Mayor Diaz was a three sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. In 1973, he was Athlete of the Year, all conference in both basketball and baseball, and scored the first touchdown in the football game against Westminister.

(Miami, Fla.) – On Friday, October 19th, 2007, at 10:00am, the city will be demolishing two abandoned structures located at 1733 NW 33 Street and 3372-80 NW 17 Avenue, a

In an effort to encourage more people to switch to compact fluorescent bulbs, Mayor Diaz along with Armando Fana, Miami Field Office Director, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Victor Palacio, Office Depot’s South Florida District Manager, will be handing out bulbs at 10:00 a.m., at Brisas del Mar, an 160-unit affordable rental building for seniors located at 556 West Flagler Street.

CITY OF MIAMI TEARS DOWN NEIGHBORHOOD MENACE
(Miami, Fla.) – The City of Miami has undertaken a concerted effort to demolish abandoned structures that have been havens for criminals and eye sores for surrounding neighborhoods. On Wednesday, September 19th, 2007, at 2:00 pm, the city will be demolishing two abandoned buildings that are part of an industrial facility located at 650 NW 8 St (33,500 sq. ft.) and 601 NW 7 St. (41,700 sq. ft.). Mayor Manny Diaz, City Manager Pete Hernandez, and officials from Building, Code Enforcement, and Police will be present. Just in the last year, more than 100 arrests have been made on this property for crimes such as narcotics violations, trespassing, and stolen property. This structure has been deemed unsafe due to the fact that is has been vacant, unsecured, and open.
