Mayor Manny Diaz’s Community-Based Initiatives strive to touch the lives of the citizens in the City of Miami by creating events that raise community awareness, family involvement, and social consciousness for the general good.
In his efforts to emphasize the value of parents spending quality time interacting with their children, Mayor Manny Diaz has spearheaded a Family Night Out Initiative within the City of Miami. The Family Night Out Initiative is an annual series of events emphasizing the importance of spending quality family time together. Included in this Initiative are the Summer Family Fun Series and the Dinner and a Movie with the Mayor. This entire Family Night Out Initiative involves creating opportunities for families in our City’s schools, parks, community-based and faith-based organizations to spend time together with their family having fun.

Summer Family Fun Series

The Summer Family Fun Series invites community organizations to think about family time. Each Community-Based Organization hosts a visit from the Mayor’s Office and HealthEase. Children get to share their favorite family time. Participants also get an opportunity to win a night out with their family. One winner from each organization is selected to receive the opportunity to spend a day out to Gameworks with their family, including transportation to and from the site. This annual effort allows families throughout the City of Miami to spend quality time together.

Dinner and a Movie with the Mayor

Mayor Diaz, along with HealthEase, sponsors an essay contest for children ages 5-12 years old participating in twelve quality after-school programs throughout the City of Miami. Each child submits an essay or a picture describing their best family night out. One essay and one picture from each after school program are selected as winners.
