ACCESS Miami is a comprehensive empowerment strategy aimed at increasing residents’ access to the financial tools and educational resources that are fundamental to economic prosperity and success.

|
Resulting from the collaborative Education Compact between the City of Miami and Miami-Dade Public Schools in September 2005, the Elevate Miami – Rites of Passage initiative emerged to ease the digital and educational divide in our community and ensure that all citizens are competitive in a global economy. We recognize that in 10 years, 70% of all available jobs will require employees with technological experience and skill. Elevate Miami attempts to ensure that all Miamians can achieve a living wage and remain attractive to businesses.

The goal of this initiative is to provide extra support and care for underachieving students by recruiting city employees to serve as mentors to these students. The City of Miami allows all employees one hour each week plus travel time (see the Administrative Policy) to mentor a child in a city school. Each potential volunteer is screened, trained and supervised to help ensure that the mentor-child relationship will be a safe and rewarding experience.
