Candlelight Memorial Service Commemorates 37th Anniversary Of the Assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
April 2, 2005 - (Miami, FL) - On Monday, April 4th, City of Miami Mayor Manny Diaz and Commissioner Jeffery Allen will be joined by County Commissioners Barbara Carey-Shuler, Dorrin Rolle and Barbara Jordan to host a unity march and candlelight memorial service commemorating the 37th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event is free and open to the public and includes a concert featuring the gospel singers Mighty Clouds of Joy and the Williams Brothers.
At the event, Mayor Manny Diaz will also announce the continuing progress of the Reclaim the Dream campaign to revitalize Martin Luther King Boulevard, including streetscape and façade improvements in line for this summer. Mayor Diaz launched the Reclaim the Dream campaign three years ago; it has operated in three phases: beautification, education and economic development. The main mission of the Reclaim the Dream Campaign is to preserve the legacy of Dr. King by redeveloping the area.
