Mayor Manny Diaz and Miami City Commission Chairman Joe Sanchez Break Ground on More Affordable Housing in East Little Havana
October 20, 2004 - (Miami, FL) - Chairman of the City of Miami Commission, Joe Sanchez, will be breaking ground on 20 new affordable homebuyer units in East Little Havana on Wednesday, October 20, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the future site of Sunshine Condominiums, located at 1234 NW 4th Street, in the City of Miami’s East Little Havana neighborhood.
Sunshine Condominiums will consist of 20 affordable spacious units to benefit households at 80% of the median income. The project will consist of two and three bedrooms units; each with its own balcony.
In order to help low-income persons realize the American Dream of homeownership in an increasingly expensive market, the City of Miami Little Havana Homeownership Advisory Board approved $800,000 in Home Investment Partnerships (HOME) funding to cover construction costs. Once the project is completed, the $800,000 loan will be converted into a Second Mortgage Buydown, lowering the monthly payments for the 20 low income households looking to purchase a home in the development.
The Little Havana Homeownership Advisory Board was created by Commissioner Joe Sanchez, who also selected its members. The Board was enacted by the Miami City Commission in September 2003 to oversee the revitalization of the eastern part of District 3.
